RECO maintains safe access to Venserpolder station in Amsterdam during modernisation
Hegeman+ Bouw & Infra will be modernising no less than 16 metrostations in Amsterdam. RECO will be supporting Hegeman+ by maintaining 100% barrier-free access to the passenger platforms. Following the Van der Madeweg metrostation (2016) and Spaklerweg station (2017), RECO will be now be focusing on Venserpolder station.
Placement of temporary passenger lift by fork-lift truck
The existing passenger lifts will be upgraded during the process of station modernisation. In order to compensate for unavailable lift capacity, Hegeman+ has also chosen to use a temporary passenger lift. To this end, Hegeman+ had the desire to position the temporary lift centrally, next to the access point to the platforms. In view of the fact that this location is covered by the station building, it would not have been possible to access it using a telescopic crane.
RECO Lift Solutions solved the problem by installing a temporary GEDA P18S passenger lift. This temporary passenger lift offers the advantage of being a relatively lightweight and compact base module, making it possible to simply use a fork-lift truck to transport it to poorly accessible installation locations.
Atrium construction
In order to create more light in the central area of Venserpolder station, the end customer (Municipality of Amsterdam) decided to have an atrium constructed in the existing platform structure. To safely catch the sawn out concrete rubble, RECO built in a Layher Allround crash deck so that passengers could continue to pass under the construction works safely. After completion of this part of the job, RECO was able to use the atrium to then erect a user-friendly Layher Allround stair tower. This enabled RECO to redirect the flow of passengers to completely circumvent the central entrance hall so that Hegeman+ could continue working unhindered.
RECO as a full-service supplier
‘RECO has an excellent track record when it comes to modernisation projects within a station environment, where significant passenger volumes need to be temporarily redirected without compromising accessibility. The company provides a one-stop-shop for customised solutions for contractors and passengers alike,’ says Julian Pot, the main contractor at Hegeman+. ‘It makes our job as a contractor so much easier being able to rely on all these solutions from a single supplier. In getting the job done, this is reflected in smooth, swift implementation without losing sight of the interests of end users (passengers) at any point.’
